PROGRAM LEVEL
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is designed to provide graduates with knowledge and understanding of the core theories and principles of Chemistry and provide them with the required skills that would enable them to conduct experiments, interpret and analyze data, and solve problems within the field of Chemistry. This program consists of 136 credit hours completed over eight full-time academic semesters including comprehensive courses in physical, organic, inorganic, analytical, and environmental chemistry, along with practical laboratory experience. The qualification is delivered in English.
Graduates are well-prepared for professional careers and advanced studies in chemistry at the master’s or doctoral levels, as well as for roles as chemists and scientists in industrial, academic, or governmental sectors.
In June 2009, the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) granted full accreditation to the University of Bahrain’s Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program for the period of 2009-2014. This accreditation was extended for an additional year until 2015 after the department addressed CSC recommendations. In 2015, the program received a five-year renewal (2015-2020) and an exceptional extension until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the Chemistry Department was awarded a new eight-year renewal of CSC accreditation (2022-2030).
In December 2020, the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program was recognized as a level 8 program on the National Qualification Framework (NQF). In 2023, it received confidence for the second cycle from the BQA. The program was revalidated in 2024, maintaining its status on the National Qualifications Framework.
