ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1978 and serves as the major center for chemical education and research in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Department offers knowledge and skills in various areas of chemistry, including physical, organic, inorganic, analytical, and environmental chemistry. Graduates are equipped with comprehensive knowledge and skills to pursue careers in both the governmental and private sectors. Opportunities are also available in consultancy, chemical industries, laboratories, health and safety, and environmental science. The Department provides chemical education of the highest quality to students at both the B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels. By 2024, the Department had a total enrollment of 594 undergraduate students and 10 postgraduate students in Environmental Chemistry. Currently, there are 17 full-time faculty members, four teaching and research assistants, eight administrative staff, and a small number of part-time teaching staff.
OUR PROGRAMS
The Department of Chemistry offers core and elective courses in different areas of chemistry like analytical, organic, physical, inorganic, and environmental chemistry. In addition, The Department of Chemistry offers services to other colleges and to other specializations within the College of Science programs.
OUR FACULTY
The Department of Chemistry has 21 faculty members. The faculty members are active in different research areas like synthesis and characterization of organic and inorganic compounds, electroanalytical techniques, water treatment, environmental and molecular toxicology, polymeric hydrogels, nanocomposites, corrosion chemistry, and computational chemistry.
